The show will run from March 1 – 18 before it will be shown at a perfect venue in Siem Reap. The new collection of images titled Nostalgia, made in my new atelier,  will be on display the second half of this year in Phnom Penh. The series I did on Wat Bo in Siem Reap will see the light next month as a 40 pages eBook… Well, it keeps me busy for a while…

The work of well-known Cambodian expat photographer Eric de Vries is being released in a trilogy of books titled, unsurprisingly, The Works of Eric de Vries.

The first in the trilogy is Street, a 220-page (landscape) book and eBook. It was released on November 12. All pics were taken during his courses, private tours and street photography workshops this year in and around Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

The photos are black and white except for the complete series titles Darkness of the White Building, Phnom Penh’s notorious and much-publicised project style building complex, which some refer to as a slum, on Sothearos Boulevard.

The second book in the series, titled Series, was released on Sunday  as a 216 page paperback and eBook.
This comprises of 11 of Eric’s photo series including A Painful Death, Hello Darling/Strangelove and Evidence of Absence. Two of the series are shot in  Thailand, the rest in Cambodia.

Last but not least is Ultimate Angkor, with more than 250 photographs of temple sites, from the sunrise at Angkor Wat, all the way to sunset at Phnom Bok. Pics are in colour, black and white and sepia.
The book, billed as “a must for Angkor and photography lovers,” will be released on December 10 as a 260-page paperback and an eBook.

The books are published by Cleartrails Publishing and can be purchased online only through Lulu.com.

Print versions of the books are $60. EBooks are $8.

Eric de Vries: S T R E E T

By the time this post is published, I should be flying to Siem Reap (via Abu Dhabi then Bangkok) arriving on the 17th November around midday. So it appears timely to introduce a photo book on Cambodia by Dutch photographer Eric de Vries. Perhaps he’ll be attending the Angkor Photo Festival as well.

STREET is all about street photography. All pictures were taken during Eric’s courses, private tours and workshops in 2011. The photographs are mostly in black and white except for the complete series ‘Darkness of the White Building’. This is Eric’s fifth book (220 pages, landscape) and is part one of the trilogy THE WORKS OF ERIC DE VRIES.

Eric de Vries lives and works in Cambodia, the country he’s been travelling to since 2000. He is currently working on two long-term projects called ‘Still Life in Khmer Style’ that covers landscapes, temple scenes and buddha statues and ‘Hello Darling’, which is about the girlbars in the towns of Cambodia.

Interestingly, Eric’s website lists Hanuman Tourism Cambodia, which is affiliated to the hotel I am staying at in Siem Reap. It also organized some of my photo shoots when I led a photo expedition to Siem Reap in February 2006.
